SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED FOR OUR APRIL 2020 SERIES.

Submissions for the Visible Poetry Project 2020 series were open from September 1, 2019 to October 31, 2019.

The Visible Poetry Project accepts all works, published or unpublished, that you define as poetry. We strive to emphasize the diversity of the global poetry community, and so encourage you to submit regardless of background or circumstance. Whether poetry is your hobby, profession, private outlet, or public expression, your work is welcome.

Submissions must be original work, and you must be the sole owner of the work, unless you are able to provide the written agreement of any co-author(s).

You may submit multiple poems, though submissions must not exceed five pages. Note that, should your submission exceed five pages, only the first five will be reviewed. Poetry submissions are read blindly, so please remove any identifying information from the pages of your document. We will not read any submissions that have identifying information on the pages. There is a limit of one submission per person. 

We recommend submitting a poem or poems that you believe to be representative of the greater themes of your work. Your filmmaker may be in touch to discuss a wider selection of your work, though you are under no obligation to provide additional works.

Visible Poetry Project’s mission is to make poetry accessible, both in its creation and dissemination. This is why we keep our reading fees low. A reading fee of $7.50 is required with each submission (please note that this comes to $8.06, including fees). An additional donation beyond this amount is suggested, and will go towards Visible Poetry Project’s operating expenses for the 2020 series. Additional donations will have no bearing on whether your work is selected. If the required reading fee imposes a financial burden on you, please email [email protected] to request a fee waiver.

2. Payment

Make a payment of $7.50 to our Fractured Atlas donation page, here: https://www.fracturedatlas.org/site/FiscalSponsorship/profile?id=17623. Please note that this does not cover the 7% administrative fee imposed by Fractured Atlas, which poets must cover themselves (this brings the total for each submission to $8.06).

We accept debit/credit card and check. If you prefer to pay by check, please make it out to "Fractured Atlas" with "Visible Poetry Project" written in the memo line. Mail the check and a copy of your application to:

All reading fees go directly towards Visible Poetry Project's infrastructure -- it covers the costs of our Vimeo, Squarespace, and Fractured Atlas accounts, as well as screenings. If you are moved by Visible Poetry Project's mission and work, we ask that you consider making an additional donation. All donations are tax-deductible!

Visible Poetry Project is committed to highlighting socioeconomically diverse artists. If the reading fee imposes a financial burden on you, please email us at [email protected] to request a fee waiver.

What you can expect:

  • We will reach out to you if there is an issue with the receipt of your payment or submission. We receive many emails during submissions, so please don't email us inquiring about the status of your application!

  • Keep a copy of your receipt! Because reading fees are submitted through Fractured Atlas, this means it is tax deductible for you! We will provide more information in our follow up emails.
